Strategy of Main Examination

The main Examination is intended to assess the overall intellectual traits and depth of understanding of candidates rather than merely the range of their information and memory. The nature and standard of questions in the General Studies papers (Paper II to Paper V) will be such that a well-educated person will be able to answer them without any specialized study. The questions will be such as to test a candidate's general awareness of a variety of subjects, which will have relevance for a career in Civil Services. The questions are likely to test the candidate's basic understanding of all relevant issues and ability to analyze and take a view on conflicting socio- economic goals, objectives and demands. The candidates must give relevant, meaningful and succinct answers. The questions being asked in the main examination are subjective in nature. In the main examination a descriptive answer is expected in organized manner. The candidates will be evaluated not only for their writing and analytical ability but also for the understanding of the various issues that hold importance from examination point of view, also playing an important role in the administrative system. The nature of the questions will be such that one can evaluate the general awareness of the candidates on various issues and subjects.

Mains Examination

The Mains exam consists of seven papers. The nature of the exam will be conventional in nature (short/medium/long) type. Each paper will be of 200 marks and the duration of the exam is 3 hr.

Points to be Noted about Mains Exam

  • All the paper except Language paper can be answered in either Hindi or English as chosen by the candidate.
  • In the Essay paper, candidates have to write 2 Essay one on a National level problem and other related to the state of Chhattisgarh.
